Biohacker Gary Brecka recommends people to perform earthing, also known as grounding, as often as possible. The current from the earth can revitalize the cells in the human body. PEMF mats are the next best thing – but what are they and what are the health benefits they provide?
What is a PEMF Mat?
PEMF stands for “Pulsed Electromagnetic Field”, and PEMF mats stimulate cells in the body by emitting electromagnetic waves that are set to certain frequencies. PEMF mats have a similar effect on the body as earthing or grounding, which is when your bare feet are contacting the natural earth. The current from the earth is mimicked by these specialized mats and they can provide a plethora of health benefits.
PEMF mats are perfect for people who live in built-up areas and don’t have access to grass or sand to perform earthing. They are also ideal for people who live in colder climates and aren’t able to contact the surface of the earth for large parts of the year. Gary Brecka says: “When you can’t contact the surface of the earth very often then you need to get a PEMF mat.”
The Health Benefits of PEMF Mats
Is PEMF therapy a pseudo-science? Far from it. A four year-long study by NASA, which cost $3.5 million, found that PEMF therapy had the best results when it comes to the healing and regeneration of cells compared to a number of other treatments. This backs up thousands of other scientific studies that conclude PEMF therapy provides an array of health benefits. But what are these health benefits specifically? Regular PEMF mat use can help with the following:
- Enhanced cellular repair
- Improved oxygenation in tissue
- Decreased inflammation & swelling
- Better circulation
- Pain reduction
- Improved muscle relaxation & performance
- Improved immune system
- Maintains heart function
- Improved cognitive function
- Reduces stress, anxiety, and depression
- Better sleep
Biohacker Gary Brecka believes that PEMF mats provide this extensive list of health benefits due to the electromagnetic waves alkalizing the cells in the body. Inflammation and disease struggles to thrive when the body is alkaline. Brecka says: “Laying on this mat will make you alkaline. It will alkalize all 32 trillion cells.”
He explains the link between alkalinity and oxygen: “Long story short – this (PEMF mat) alkalizes the body and it also helps to oxygenate the body. Alkaline and oxygen go hand in hand.”
Disease is known to thrive in acidic environments. According to Brecka, the structure of our red blood cells signals when the body is becoming too acidic. He states: “Before you ground or use a PEMF mat all your red blood cells are clumped together, this is what happens when you get acidic, when your body gets borderline acidic."
PEMF mats have a positive effect on the structure of our red blood cells according to the human biologist. Brecka says: “The pH range of blood is only about four-five tenths of a point, it’s not much. If I get more acidic my red blood cells start to stick together and clump up and travel around the bloodstream in packs. If I can separate them – which I can do with a PEMF mat, I get all that surface area to exchange nutrients with the bloodstream and that’s what you want.”
How do PEMF Mats work?
PEMF mats mimic the grounding force of the earth. They release electromagnetic waves which stimulate cells in the body when we come into contact with them. Most mats allow you to adjust the intensity of the waves.
Gary Brecka says: “PEMF mats run a low gauss current through the body, a little bit stronger than the current of the surface of the earth.”
PEMF mats provide a gentle, soothing experience and the frequencies are barely noticeable. Even though your body struggles to notice the vibrations you will soon start to notice the rejuvenating effects these mats have on the body. Gary Brecka says: “People lay on these PEMF mats and go “I don’t feel anything” – well, you’re not supposed to, so that’s a good sign.”
He continues: “You actually won’t feel a thing when you lay on this mat. Low frequencies are used to alkalize the body, higher frequencies are used for muscle pain, nerve pain, and other kind of treatments.”
How to use a PEMF Mat
People can lay down directly on a PEMF mat which is placed on the floor or on the couch, or you can use it overnight on your mattress while you sleep.
Gary Brecka is an advocate for using his PEMF mat while he sleeps. He sets it on a timer. He says: “Put it right on top of the mattress, put the mattress pad and the sheet over the top of it, run this thing when you go to bed at night and every morning you wake up you’ll be alkaline.”
The general consensus is that 30 minutes per day is the optimal amount of time to reap the health benefits of a PEMF mat.
Which PEMF Mat Does Gary Brecka Use?
Gary Brecka uses the 10X Health System Purewave PEMF Mat. This particular mat is his preference having tested many on the market.
We recommending using the 10X Health System Purewave PEMF Mat or the HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Mat.
HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Mat
The HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Mat combines PEMF with infrared technology. These two powerful healing technologies combine to make the ultimate recovery tool. PEMF grounds you in earth’s magnetic field for a full-body reset, while infrared’s deeply penetrating heat doubles your dose.
You can use this mat to improve your all-round health and wellbeing, ease chronic pain, recover from workout sessions, deepen meditations, or experience full-body relaxation. The beauty of this mat is that there is no set-up or clean-up required.
We already know that PEMF therapy is out of this world, with NASA implementing it for astronauts recovering from their space missions, but infrared technology means this mat is from another realm. The mat’s infrared technology produces deeply penetrating heat to boost recovery further. Plus, there’s twenty pounds of healing crystals layered inside the mat, which produce negative ions when heated.
HigherDOSE's mat currently has 4.94 out of 5 stars based on 342 reviews, while their industry leading Infrared Sauna Blanket has a rating of 4.88 out of 5 based on 2541 reviews at the time of writing. Numbers don’t lie!
